After months of rehearsal, the Smash Hits! story finally began on a Saturday night in May 2009 when the band sold out their first Dublin show at The Sugar Club. The 6-pc managed in the process to become something of an overnight success in that they were immediately offered a monthly residency at prestigious Dublin venue Tripod and were quickly ushered onto the bill at Oxegen '09 a few weeks later. Later that year Smash Hits! opened up the Electric Picnic on the main stage ahead of MGMT, the Michael Nyman Orchestra and Orbital . On the back of these successful A-list festival appearances, the word began to spread further afield and the Hits were soon selling out residencies in many of the country's top venues with show-stopping performances in particular in the 800-plus capacity Waterford's Forum Theatre, the 1,000-plus capacity Garavogue in Sligo and at the Cork Jazz Festival. After a New year's Eve Dublin sellout, Smash Hits! were receiving raving press reviews and accumulating a loyal nationwide fanbase that was growing with every show...
